Cookies and Local Storage
Last updated: 2026-10-27
This page explains the cookies and browser storage used by SoupFestivals, the website at soupfestivals.com and our mobile apps where available (the "Service"), run by Latent Software LLC, 30 N Gould St, Ste N, Sheridan, WY 82801, USA ("we", "us" or "our"). It is information, not a contract. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data in general.
In short: we use only the cookies and storage that are strictly necessary for the Service, or for a feature or preference that you expressly ask for. We use no analytics, advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. That is why we do not show a cookie banner.
1. What cookies and local storage are
A cookie is a small file that a website asks your browser to keep and send back with each request. Local storage is space in your browser where a site can keep small pieces of information; it stays on your device and is not sent to us with each request.
2. What we use
We describe our cookies and storage by what they do. The details may change as we maintain the Service, but we will not add anything that needs your consent without asking you first (Section 3).
2.1 Cookies
| Purpose | Set by | Kind | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Session. Keeps you signed in, remembers your language, keeps a sign-in or sign-up in progress (for example, with Google), and, if you use "near me", the precise location from your device, which we use for up to 24 hours | Us | Strictly necessary | Until you close your browser |
| "Remember me". Keeps you signed in on that device if you choose "Remember me". Our mobile apps keep you signed in this way | Us | Strictly necessary | Up to 1 year |
| Sign-out in our mobile apps. Helps the app show the right screens after you sign out. It does not identify you | Us | Strictly necessary, mobile apps only | A few minutes |
| Security. Helps tell people from bots and protects the Service against attacks and abuse | Our security and network provider | Strictly necessary | Set by the provider; usually minutes to hours |
2.2 Local storage
| Purpose | Kind | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Remembers your display preference (light or dark), which you expressly select | Strictly necessary for the display preference you select | Until you clear it |
| Remembers that you closed a banner, so we do not show it again too soon. Nothing is stored when a banner is only shown | Strictly necessary for your request to close the banner | Until you clear it |
| Keeps a draft of a festival you are adding while you sign up, so you do not lose what you typed | Strictly necessary to provide what you asked for | Up to 7 days (deleted the next time you open the page after that); cleared when you send it |
3. Why we do not ask for consent
The ePrivacy rules (Article 5(3) of Directive 2002/58/EC, and the national laws based on it, such as Portugal's) require consent before a site stores or reads information on your device, except where that is strictly necessary to provide a service you asked for, or only to carry a communication.
We rely on the consent exemption only where storage or access is strictly necessary to transmit a communication or provide functionality you expressly request. This can include remembering an expressly selected preference where the storage is necessary and proportionate for that functionality. Remembering a choice does not, by itself, create an exemption. Any non-exempt storage or access requires prior consent. A banner stores nothing when it is shown; we store only your choice to close it. None of it is used for analytics, advertising or to follow you across other sites.
If we ever want to add a cookie or storage item that is not strictly necessary, we will ask for your consent first, and update this page.
4. Security checks
To protect the Service, our security and network provider may set its own strictly necessary cookies, and may run a security check in your browser, for example on sign-in, sign-up, password and alert forms. The check uses information from your browser to tell people from bots. It is not used for advertising or to follow you across sites.
5. Maps
When a map is shown, your browser loads the map images directly from a map provider. This is not a cookie set by us, but it is a request from your browser to a third party: the map provider receives your IP address and the map area requested.
6. Other sites we link to
Links to organizers' and businesses' pages, maps, social networks and other sites take you to services we do not control. Those sites may set their own cookies under their own policies once you visit them. We do not load their trackers on our pages.
7. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We do not track you across sites, so there is nothing for a "Do Not Track" signal to turn off. We treat a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal as a request not to sell or share your personal information. We do not sell or share it anyway.
8. How to clear or block cookies and storage
- Your browser settings let you see, delete and block cookies and site data (which includes local storage) for soupfestivals.com. Look for "Cookies and site data", "Privacy" or "Website data".
- "Near me" location: use the link in the footer to clear your saved location from your session at any time. Clearing it does not revoke your browser's location permission; to stop further location collection, revoke that permission in your browser or device settings (Privacy Policy).
- Signing out ends your session on that device. You can also end sessions on other devices in Settings, under "Sessions & devices".
If you block our cookies, you cannot sign in, the Service may forget your language, and "near me" will not work. If you block security cookies or checks, you may see more security checks, or be unable to use some forms.
