About This Event
Kakavia is the old fishermen's soup of the Greek islands, made with fish, potatoes, onions, olive oil and herbs. In August 2023 the Municipality of Sitia cooked 686 kg of it on the harbour front and entered the Guinness World Records for the largest serving of kakavia. The feast was brought back in 2025 as a summer fixture, with chef Dina Nikolaou directing a team of cooks at big cauldrons, music on the quay and the whole town queuing with bowls. Go in the evening, when the harbour lights come on.
