About This Event
Baja calls itself the capital of halászlé, the paprika-red Danube fish soup, and the festival is the town's big summer gathering. Amateur cooks and teams set up cauldrons in the centre and stir the soup over open fire, with the main cooking day on the Saturday. Around the cooking there are concerts, markets and family programmes, and the entry to the town-centre part is free while some stage programmes at Petőfi Island need a ticket. It began as a one-off celebration of the town and has run every July since.

What's on
Gourmet Riporter wrote on 9 July 2017 that about 1,500 cauldrons had been cooking the day before in 35 degree heat; it also notes that more and more locals cook at home and then walk to the festival, and that many cooks on the square come from elsewhere, with large Croatian groups.
On the menu
