About This Event
Kjötsúpudagurinn, the Icelandic Meat Soup Day, began as a neighbourhood idea by two Skólavörðustígur shopkeepers and grew into a street party with chefs, farmers and thousands of visitors. Several restaurants run soup stations along the street, each with its own take on the lamb, root vegetable and rice soup, and the first bowl traditionally goes to the inmates of the old Hegningarhúsið prison. Soup is free and served in the early afternoon until it runs out, which it usually does. Queues are part of the fun, so go at the start.

What's on
Morgunblaðið (24 October 2014) announces that on Saturday 25 October, the first day of winter, Icelandic meat soup would be served as usual on Skólavörðustígur. Two Facebook events were created ('Kjötsúpudagurinn á Skólavörðustíg' and 'Kjötsúpudagurinn - The Meat Soup Day', the first hosted by Íslenskt lambakjöt). Vísir ran a piece on 25 October about a visitor who came to Iceland specifically for the Meat Soup Day.
