About This Event

What's on
The very first festival was held on Ascension Thursday, 24 May 2001, around the place de la Nouvelle Aventure in Wazemmes, from 3 pm to 8 pm. A jury chaired by illustrator Roger Frezin tasted 36 soups from around the world, and the Louche d'Or went to a Nepalese mushroom, garlic, shallot and spice soup cooked by Chhongba Sherpa. The organisers had hoped for about 1,000 people and reportedly about 7,000 came. It was a one-off date: the festival only moved to 1 May in 2003.
