About This Event
Amateur cooks compete on Saturday and professional kitchens on Sunday, serving Boston and Manhattan chowder from booths along the Boardwalk with the beach behind them. Visitors buy a tasting kit, try the chowders and vote for People's Choice; judges pick the best of each style. It began indoors in a mini-golf building and moved outside in 1985. Entry to the Boardwalk is free and kit sales fund Santa Cruz Parks & Recreation.

The 34th annual event. Derek Rupp's Pleasure Pizza East Side Eatery swept the judges' Best Professional Boston and Manhattan awards and won People's Choice for professional Manhattan. Amateur People's Choice went to 4 Men & A Clam (Boston) and Grandma's Clam Diggers (Manhattan); Rosie's Clam & Get It had the most-tasted chowder. The Boardwalk's photos show winners posing with plaques on the beach, including a Knights of Clamelot team.
