About This Event
Amateur cooks compete on Saturday and professional kitchens on Sunday, serving Boston and Manhattan chowder from booths along the Boardwalk with the beach behind them. Visitors buy a tasting kit, try the chowders and vote for People's Choice; judges pick the best of each style. It began indoors in a mini-golf building and moved outside in 1985. Entry to the Boardwalk is free and kit sales fund Santa Cruz Parks & Recreation.

The 37th annual event, with more than 80 teams according to the Boardwalk. The Boardwalk's 2018 photo shows the park shoulder to shoulder with tasters between the Sky Glider and the beach. Professional winners are those listed by Edible Monterey Bay (a 2019 call-for-chefs article that carries 2018 results); amateur results were not found.
