About This Event
Amateur cooks compete on Saturday and professional kitchens on Sunday, serving Boston and Manhattan chowder from booths along the Boardwalk with the beach behind them. Visitors buy a tasting kit, try the chowders and vote for People's Choice; judges pick the best of each style. It began indoors in a mini-golf building and moved outside in 1985. Entry to the Boardwalk is free and kit sales fund Santa Cruz Parks & Recreation.

The 38th annual event: amateurs on Saturday 23 February, professionals on Sunday 24 February. UCSC Dining reported a first-place award, its twelfth gold. Santa Cruz Sentinel reported that the Boardwalk was filled and published the award winners.
