About This Event
Running since 1982, the cook-off raises money for the city's youth programmes. Visitors buy a tasting kit with tickets and a People's Choice ballot, then wander the entries. It takes place on the Beach Boardwalk in late February.

The 43rd annual event, amateurs Saturday 24 and professionals Sunday 25 February 2024; $75 team entry, two-day format with Boston and Manhattan categories in both divisions, judges' picks plus People's Choice and Most Tasted by tasting-kit ballot. UCSC Dining entered two teams, the Chowder Slugs (Boston) and the Redwood Sluggers (Manhattan), 40 gallons each, about 1,300 portions; they won People's Choice for Manhattan, second for judges' Best Manhattan and third Most Tasted Boston, taking UCSC to 22 awards since 2004. The Boston team served out in under two hours.
