What's on
The 2009 carnival on 21-22 November filled the plaza in front of City Hall with bowls at NT$50 each, a county-versus-city cook-off, the finals of the beef noodle chef contest (semi-finals 14 Nov, finals 22 Nov, in clear-stewed, soy-braised and creative divisions), celebrity kitchens and a cooking class. The mayor announced it at a press conference on 3 November, where all shops pledged not to use US beef offal, minced meat or spinal cord. A 'Taiwan edition of the Michelin Guide' evaluation (15-30 Aug) picked the top 50 shops, announced 27 Sept, and for the first time the carnival travelled abroad to Macau Fisherman's Wharf on 16-18 October.
