About This Event
Amateur cooks compete on Saturday and professional kitchens on Sunday, serving Boston and Manhattan chowder from booths along the Boardwalk with the beach behind them. Visitors buy a tasting kit, try the chowders and vote for People's Choice; judges pick the best of each style. It began indoors in a mini-golf building and moved outside in 1985. Entry to the Boardwalk is free and kit sales fund Santa Cruz Parks & Recreation.

The 39th annual event ran Saturday 22 (amateurs) and Sunday 23 February 2020, 10 am to 4 pm. Free admission; a $10 tasting kit gave six taste tickets, spoon, cup and a People's Choice ballot. Prizes included plaques, cash and United Airlines round-trip airfare. It was among the last big food events before the pandemic.
