About This Event
Vilnius turns pink for a festival built around šaltibarščiai, the chilled beetroot and kefir soup that Lithuanians eat all summer. Restaurants, cafes and bars across the city serve their own versions, and there is a Pink Soup Parade through the Old Town. Started in 2023, it has grown from a one-day event around Tymo Market into a three-day festival. Check the official programme for the venue map and what is on each day.

The very first Pink Soup Fest was a one-day event on Saturday 10 June 2023, part of Vilnius's 700th-anniversary year and run by the city agency Go Vilnius. The main area sat at the foot of Bastėjos kalnas, where people in beet-pink costumes slid down a foam-covered slide into the biggest artificial bowl of šaltibarščiai, with a hot-air balloon flight as the top prize. More than 100 partners took part (over 30 restaurants and a lot of cafés serving šaltibarščių desserts, ice cream and pink drinks), with a spiciest-soup contest at Tymo turgus, a pink disco, art about the soup, a talk on the colour pink at the Energy and Technology Museum and an evening concert by Leon Somov in Kūdrų parkas. The poster, with its beetroot character holding a bowl shaped like a castle tower, simply says Pink Soup Fest, 10/06, Vilnius. Go Vilnius's head said the idea had been brewing since before the Covid restrictions. Attendance is given as about 15,000 by the organisers.
